Back from maternity leave
So it's been a long time since I've posted, and the focus of my posts is going to shift a bit. It will now be mostly baby-related, with some political stuff thrown in.
e.g: We took Matilda to Harbin Hot Springs for the first time last Wednesday, where she met a friendly 7-month-old boy named Ira. They hung out for a bit, then we all went for a swim in the Heart Pool (a 95-98 degree heart-shaped pool which is the only pool children are allowed in at Harbin). Matilda seemed a bit uncertain about her first swim, and spent a lot of time watching Ira frolic and swallow water.
The next day she started to make louder, more varied noises than she had been. Like, by a lot. Screeches and little octave runs and burbles and gurgles and forming consonants and vowels and smushing them together. It was so cool! We have several happy nonsense conversations each day.
On Sunday, I came out of the shower (generally a fussy time because Mommy isn't visible) to find her totally silent and enthralled by her hands. She would extend her arms out in front of her, sort of grab one hand with the other and just stare at them. Another milestone! She does it a bit each day now, whenever we leave her alone.
